Joe Popowicz

Principal Consultant

I started Emergent Clinical in 2013 with the vision of serving as an extension of the Medical Device and Diagnostics companies. A majority of companies in the space are entrepreneurial and innovative, and I wanted to develop a service model that matched their needs in the clinical trial space.

I am most proud of the team we’ve built (and continue to build) at Emergent. We have a variety of backgrounds and strengths, but as a team, we complement one another and that benefits our clients in getting the best outcome possible. I am also motivated by the countless patients who have benefitted from products that our team has supported since 2013. They include a variety of surgical devices in orthopedic and general surgery applications, a number of diagnostics tools including a novel hematology analyzer (OLO), and the first and only FDA cleared device that modifies eating behavior through and oral device where I currently serve on the Board of Directors.

When not working at Emergent, I enjoy making memories with my family. Whether a relaxed weekend or out on a new adventure, they are my greatest joy. I also enjoy challenging myself at Spartan Races and have a goal of running an Ultra Beast in the coming years. A fun fact is that both my family and those races are responsible for motivating me to lose over 85 pounds since starting the company!

Jen Dugan

Jennifer Dugan

Project Director

I was the third official employee at Emergent, joining the company in 2015 as a Project Director. After receiving my degree in Occupational Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University, I spent two years working in direct patient care at a sub-acute rehabilitation hospital before making the move into Clinical Research. I started in the field as a Clinical Research Associate and served my time as a “road warrior” for several years before transitioning into Project Management. I spent time working for both Sponsor and service provider companies in pharmaceutical clinical research before shifting focus to medical device research.

I am happy to share my professional career once again with Joe and have enjoyed being part of the growth that has made our company what it is today. Medical Device clinical research thrives on the more personalized, relationship-driven interactions both with our Sponsor clients as well as our clinical sites. Our success is driven by our ability to work in partnership with our customers. I started my professional career wanting to improve the lives of patients and my last 20 years in Clinical Research has allowed me to continue doing that in ways that are constantly evolving and include many different therapeutic areas.

In my every day life, I love spending time with my husband John and my two amazing kids, Kaitlyn and Colin. I am happiest when relaxing on the beach, getting lost in a good book, going for a run or best of all, enjoying good food and even better wine with family and friends.

Project Manager

I joined Emergent in 2014 as a Project Manager and have had the opportunity to help start up and oversee clinical research projects for both the medical device and pharmaceutical industries. After receiving a Master of Science in Bioengineering from Clemson University, I went on to work at The Hawkins Foundation and several medical device companies, including Stryker Orthobiologics (where I met Joe and Jen). In addition to my position at Emergent, I also lecture on Regulatory and Clinical Affairs in the Bioengineering Department at Clemson University.

My husband Jeremy and I live with our daughter, Emily, and two dogs in Piedmont, South Carolina. We love staying active outdoors, volunteering in our community, and spending time at the beach.

I joined the Emergent Team in 2017 as a Project Coordinator. I enjoy working at Emergent because the atmosphere is both unique and challenging. I am grateful to work with such an intelligent and grounded team because we know how to hustle but we share many laughs along the way too.

I pride myself on building relationships with our partners and I genuinely feel like we are an extension of our clients’ companies because we offer a more personal experience.

When I’m not working you can usually find me having some sort of fun. I enjoy nature, dining out, going to the shore, and relaxing with my family and friends at the lake. I am passionate about creating life experiences and living life to the fullest.
